Our new Patients Know Best (PKB) portal is a free, secure online service for cancer patients at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Accessible via the NHS App, it gives you 24/7 access to your personal health record and important information related to your cancer care, all in one place.
How to Access or Register for Patients Know Best
Cancer teams across Lancashire Teaching Hospitals are rolling out PKB in phases.
- If you receive an email invitation: Follow the instructions in the email to register your account.
- If you haven't received an invitation: You can still register using your NHS login or directly through the NHS App.
Once registered, you can log in to PKB at any time through the NHS App or online.

What You Can See in Your Record
Depending on your specialty team, your PKB health record allows you to view:
- Test and scan results: Including Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) results, mammogram reports, and CT scan reports.
- Care plans: Personalised care plans tailored to your diagnosis and treatment.
- Diagnosis details: Key information about your diagnosis and treatment journey.
- Signs and symptoms advice: Guidance on symptoms to monitor and how to contact your care team if needed.
- Health questionnaires: Complete digital questionnaires before or between appointments.
- Information library: Resources, videos, and support links tailored specifically to your diagnosis.
Features to Support Your Care
- Message your team: Send direct messages to your clinical nurse specialist or healthcare team.
- Track your wellbeing: Keep a health journal and track side effects or symptoms.
- Connect wearable devices: Link compatible devices and apps (such as Fitbit or Strava) to monitor activity levels during recovery or prehabilitation.
Share and Control Access to your Record
You are always in control of who sees your health information:
- Share with loved ones or carers: Give family members, carers, or trusted friends access to view test results or complete questionnaires on your behalf.
- Share with other professionals: Allow emergency staff, your GP, community nurses, or pharmacists to see your records when needed, anywhere in the UK or abroad.
- Manage permissions: Choose exactly who has access to your records and what parts they can see.
- Support research: Option to consent to share health information for clinical research trials and studies.
Sharing your medical information—including details of your diagnosis, allergies, or medications—can be critical, particularly if you have a long-term condition or specific care needs.
