Royal Preston Hospital is one of three Maternal Medicine Centres (MMC) within the North West Maternal Medicine Network along with St Mary’s Hospital (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust) and Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

Vision - Our aim at Preston Maternal Medicine centre is to ensure that you and your baby receive high quality, safe and personalised multi-disciplinary care throughout your pregnancy journey.

The Maternal Medicine Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital is led by obstetricians, specialist physicians and a specialist midwife who all work closely with colleagues from other specialist services to support you if you have a pre-existing medical condition or if a medical condition or complication develops during pregnancy or shortly after birth.

Royal Preston Hospital, Maternal Medicine Centre works in collaboration with neighbouring trusts, East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust and Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to offer specialist support when pregnancy is more complex.

The team will support your local maternity service to provide ongoing care with specialist input throughout your pregnancy, however, if necessary, you will be offered specialist care at Royal Preston Hospital in one of our maternal medicine clinics.

The Maternal Medicine Centre will coordinate your care along with  the multi-disciplinary team including obstetricians and physicians from across the region, a specialist obstetric anaesthetist, a fetal maternal medicine consultant and the maternal medicine specialist midwife.

Unfortunately, you are unable to self-refer to this service and you will need to speak with your midwife or doctor if you feel that you need specialist care because your pregnancy is more complex.

If you have been referred to the maternal medicine centre, then you may be offered an appointment at one of the specialist clinics. If this is the case, you will be contacted by the maternal medicine centre who will confirm arrangements for an appointment. If this is not required, your local maternity team will be in contact with you to confirm your plan of care. If you have certain conditions then you may be advised to have all your care at the maternal medicine centre at Preston. If this is the case the team at Preston will contact you to arrange your appointments.

Contact number: 01772 524730

The Maternal Medicine Centre office is open Monday to Friday, 8am - 4pm.

Outside of these hours, you can either call you local maternity service for advice or please ring the relevant departments, which can be found here
