Biography
After graduating from The University of London (St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, before it’s merge with Kings and Guys), I worked as a house officer and casualty officer in Kent before moving to the West Midlands, for basic and then higher surgical training. I remained in the West Midlands for the remainder of my training, apart from a year as a Laparoscopic Research Fellow in Omaha NE, USA, during which, in October 1991, I was co-author of the first published series reporting results of laparoscopic hernia repair, amongst numerous other publications and presentations.
In 1996 I moved to Lancashire as a Consultant General Surgeon at Chorley Hospital with an interest in upper GI and laparoscopic surgery. In 2001 I moved to Royal Preston Hospital to take on the Day Case Unit and from 2007 -2010 I was on the committee of the British Association of Day Surgery. Also in 2001 I started to perform more and more endoscopy, both diagnostic and therapeutic, in terms of both numbers and complexity, across both sites within the trust. In 2007 I joined the list of endoscopists in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. In 2015 I gave up surgery to become a full-time endoscopist, clinical lead for endoscopy and training lead for endoscopy.
Training:
Having previously been the training lead or college rep for surgery on several occasions I am now the training lead for the Trust in endoscopy. I attend colonoscopy training courses in Liverpool as part of the faculty on a regular basis.
