Here at Lancashire Teaching Hospital, we pride ourselves in being a health research active organisation. We have an expansive Research and Innovation Centre which includes our Clinical Research Facility where we conduct early phase clinical trials.
Involving patients and public in our research ensures that we run better studies because:
- They are more relevant to participants.
- They are designed in a way which is acceptable to participants.
- The information provided to participants is easily understood.
- We have better communication of results to participants at the end of the study.
Overall, by involving patients and public members throughout we provide participants with a much better experience of research.
By being involved you would work alongside our research teams ensuring that patient and public voices are heard, listened to and valued.
What would be involved:
- Minimum commitment would be attendance at a bi-monthly 2-hour on-line meeting.
- Over and above that really depends on how much time you have to get involved.
- We will involve you in reviewing resources associated with research funding applications including patient information leaflets. What you can bring to this is looking at it through the lens of a patient public member.
- Where appropriate and of course providing you agreed, we may be able to provide payment for your time.
