The 4th February marks World Cancer Day, a global movement uniting people, organisations and communities in the fight against cancer.
This year’s theme, United by Unique, highlights the importance of recognising that every person’s experience of cancer is different - but we are united in our ambition to reduce the burden of cancer and improve care for everyone.
Here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, our teams across oncology, radiology, surgery, diagnostics, research and support services continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every patient receives high‑quality, compassionate and equitable care.
We’re proud to share a short film created with colleagues and one patient, showcasing the dedication, teamwork and humanity behind our cancer services, and the help available at the Macmillan Information and Support Service centre at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.
The service offers comprehensive information and support for people affected by cancer, including emotional, financial, and practical help, through services like specialist nurses, online communities, benefits advice, and information centres, aiming to help them live as fully as possible by addressing physical, emotional, and financial impacts, and also campaigns for better cancer care and supports the healthcare workforce.
World Cancer Day is also a reminder that cancer affects us all. Whether you work directly in clinical services or support teams behind the scenes, every role contributes to better care and better futures for our communities.
