VE Day 80 – Honouring Service and Sacrifice

Image - VE Day 80 with British FlagToday, on Victory in Europe (VE) Day, we take a moment to reflect on the end of World War II in Europe in 1945 – a pivotal moment in our history that marked the beginning of peace, recovery, and rebuilding.

As a Veteran Aware organisation and proud holder of the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award, our Trust is committed to recognising and supporting those who serve or have served in the armed forces, including their families. Many of our colleagues have direct links to the military community, and on this day especially, we honour those connections with gratitude and respect.

VE Day is a time to remember the sacrifices made for freedom and to recognise the enduring values of courage, resilience, and public service – values we continue to uphold across our NHS teams every day.

At 12noon, Government buildings will be observing a national two-minute silence. We ask colleagues, where practicalities allow and should you wish, to make efforts to observe the silence.

Thank you to all our staff for the dedication you show, and for helping us continue a legacy of care that spans generations.
