Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity and neonatal and maternity charity Baby Beat are delighted to offer for the first time, a limited number of places for this year’s historic Cross Bay Walk.

It will be the first public fundraising event both charities have run since many were cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both charities can offer a maximum of 75 places for the June 6th event in line with the government’s road map to allow outdoor events to go ahead under social distancing guidelines.

Led this year by Her Majesty the Queen’s Guide Michael Wilson, the eight-mile walk will start at 3.15pm from Arnside Pier and finish at Kents Bank, offering participants the chance to immerse themselves in Morecambe Bay’s natural beauty.

The route takes approximately four hours and is suitable for children aged eight and above and dogs are welcome too. Due to the challenging nature of the route, participants may need to wade through deep water and it is therefore not suitable for children under the age of eight or those who have limited mobility to take part.

Walkers will have the option to raise money for either Baby Beat, who support new mums, babies, and mums to be being cared for at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, or the hospitals’ main charity arm, whose mission is to fund items outside of NHS budgets from technology, research, and furnishings.

Fundraising Coordinator at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity, Roya Armstrong, said: “We are thrilled to be taking part in this year’s Cross Bay Walk. In a year where so many fundraising events have been cancelled or postponed; the Cross Bay Walk is a chance for us to thank our supporters for their continued support whilst raising funds to help provide the very best care to our patients.”

Cathy Skidmore, Baby Beat manager, said: “We are delighted to offer supporters of Baby Beat the chance to take part in this year’s Cross Bay Walk. Like many charities, we rely on community fundraising events to support mums and babies being cared for at our hospitals and would encourage early sign up before places sell out.”
