Spring booster campaign begins vaccinating vulnerable residents

The most vulnerable residents in Lancashire and South Cumbria are now able to get their COVID-19 spring booster.

Eligible people across the region can book an appointment to have the jab or attend a walk-in centre without waiting to be invited by the NHS.

Some care home residents have been receiving the Spring booster in recent weeks, and now over-75s and people who are immunocompromised - such as cancer patients and organ transplant recipients - are the latest to become eligible.

Jane Scattergood, senior responsible officer for the Lancashire and South Cumbria COVID-19 vaccination programme, said: “While life has mostly returned to normal for many, and people aren’t talking about COVID-19 to the same degree anymore, the virus is still circulating and causing serious illness.

“Older people and those who are immunocompromised are the most likely to be badly affected, and that’s why it is important that they get their spring booster at the earliest opportunity.

“People may receive invitations on their phones or through the post, but if you are eligible there is no need to wait – you can book via the National Booking System or look out for any walk-in sessions happening locally.”

Vaccinations are being offered through a mix of GP surgeries and community pharmacies, but please book via the National Booking Service online or by phoning 119.

It is important to ensure that any appointment takes place at least three months since your last dose.

The first or second dose COVID-19 vaccinations for everyone who has yet to receive a vaccine will end on 30 June, after which the NHS offer will become more targeted in its offer, focusing on individuals with increased risk. Individuals who have not yet received their first or second dose of the vaccine (including those considering foreign travel) should come forward as soon as possible to make sure they don’t miss their opportunity.
