Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce the opening of three new day case theatres at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.
The new theatres, which now make nine in total, are a much welcomed addition to the site and will help make inroads for patients who are currently awaiting elective procedures.
The multi-million pound project, developed by construction company Tilbury Douglas, will see its first patients arrive on Wednesday 10th November.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals staff were today (5th November) invited to a low-key opening ceremony and toured the facility which is already scheduling patients in for treatment over the coming months.
The theatres will treat patients from across Lancashire and South Cumbria for a range of surgical specialty day case procedures such as Orthopaedic, Plastic Surgery and General Surgery.
Katie Tierney, Clinical Business manager at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, said: “We are so proud of the facility; it will make so much difference to helping care for the patients who require healthcare from the region.
“There is such a buzz around the place and it will be even better when our first patients are here in the next few days.”
The new theatres are the first of two welcome additions to Chorley and South Ribble Hospital in as many months with the new Ophthalmology development set to open in December 2021.
‘It’s lovely to have a new home’ was the most heard comment from the excited and relieved team who will be staffing the facility next week.
Steve Canty, Divisional Medical Director for Surgery at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, added: “The new theatres are a much welcomed and important addition to patients across Lancashire and South Cumbria who are waiting to undergo elective procedures.
“Many have waited for a very long time to receive treatment and these new facilities will help us to treat patients more quickly, and ensure our patients receive the excellent care they require.”
Phil Shaw, Divisional Director for Tilbury Douglas, said: “The fast turn-around of the theatres is a testament to the teams hard work and industry expertise.
We’re proud to announce that this is the second project delivered for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Ophthalmology Unit scheduled to handover at the end of the month.
We are delighted to be able to continue to support the NHS with the accelerating demand for additional healthcare facilities.”
