The owner of a dog grooming salon in Lancashire has raised more than £1,600 for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Royal Preston Hospital by creating a ‘doggy calendar’.
Laura Abrams, who runs Furry Tails Professional Dog Grooming in Tarleton, created a calendar with all proceeds going to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals’ maternity and neonatal charity Baby Beat.
Laura said:
“The idea for the doggy calendar came when one of my dearest, most regular customers, Norman, became a grandad during lockdown to beautiful baby triplets. I am sorry to say that the three baby girls passed away on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in May of last year. Norman and his incredible family have raised money in the girls’ memory, so I offered to create the ‘Smiling Doggies 2021 Calendar’ featuring some of my furry clients to help.
“We know that the unit provided amazing care for the Norman’s grandchildren and their family, so this was just my way of paying tribute to them following such a huge loss. I am delighted to say we raised a massive £1,680 for Baby Beat, which will be used to support projects in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Royal Preston Hospital!”
The calendars sold out completely at £10 each and featured eight dogs per month, with some special themed pages for October and December.
Cathy Skidmore, Baby Beat Manager, said:
“We were so sorry to hear of this tragic loss, and we want to send our very best wishes to the family, who have been through so much. A special thank you goes to Laura, whose incredible efforts have resulted in a huge donation for Baby Beat which we know will go a long way to supporting projects on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and helping other babies and their families in the future. We are so delighted but not at all surprised that the calendars sold out – Laura’s clients are super cute!”
