Your Sarcoma Cancer Nurse Specialists
A diagnosis of a sarcoma can cause worry for you, your relatives or carers. Our Sarcoma Specialist Nurses are here to offer advice and support to you and your family following a Sarcoma Cancer diagnosis. They have expert knowledge and experience in Sarcoma cancer and may sometimes be referred to as your key worker. The sarcoma cancer specialist nursing team includes a lead nurse and clinical nurse specialist and provides a vital link between you and your sarcoma doctors. You may have contact with any member of the team throughout your cancer journey.

Advice and support following a diagnosis of sarcoma cancer diagnosis, different types of sarcoma, investigations and treatment options.

A full holistic needs assessment of your needs whenever you need, with assistance to support any symptoms and concerns you may have at these times.

Contact with local and national cancer services and support groups

Information regarding benefit entitlements for cancer patients

Nurse led sarcoma cancer follow up clinics

Referrals to specialist services such as counselling, complimentary therapies, lymphoedema support and palliative care teams
The role of the Sarcoma cancer clinical nurse specialist:

To act as your key worker

To make sure your care runs smoothly

To act as a point of contact about any aspect of your care

To provide a link between you and your Sarcoma cancer doctors

Nurse-led clinics
Most Sarcoma cancer patients will require regular clinic check-ups after treatment. The Sarcoma cancer specialist nurse’s run a nurse led follow up clinic weekly. Please contact your CNS if you would prefer to be seen in the nurse led follow up clinic as part of your ongoing care.
If you are being followed by your surgical team, the Sarcoma specialist nurses are still available for advice and support at any time and are in attendance at your consultant led follow-up appointment
Sarcoma cancer Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT)
Sarcoma is a rare cancer and treatment is often shared between the specialist sarcoma unit at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals in Liverpool, Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Bebington in Cheshire and here at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. The Sarcoma Cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) is a team of experts who specialise in caring for patients with Sarcoma cancer. The MDT meets on a weekly basis via Microsoft Teams web link to discuss your recent investigations and treatment. If your case is discussed at the MDT meeting, a specialist nurse may contact you following the meeting to inform you if there are any changes to your treatment plan.
What is a Holistic Needs Assessment (HNA)
A cancer diagnosis can affect you in many different ways.
A holistic needs assessment is a discussion between a you and a healthcare professional in which concerns can be identified and a personalised care and support plan can be put in place. It is a way to start a conversation about any needs or concerns that you may have and allows the team to signpost these concerns to relevant services that can assist and support accordingly. This could include; Practical, emotional, spiritual or physical concerns as well as identifying areas where more information or further support is needed.

The Sarcoma cancer specialist nurses work from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.
