Some people were just born to care for others… We just need to find you, as we want you working in Chorley or Preston Hospitals, providing the best care possible to our patients. We are partnering with Lancashire Adult Learning who are delivering a bespoke one-week course all about being a Healthcare Assistant with us, giving you the tools you need to do a cracking application – we even guarantee you an interview at the end so we cannot say fairer than that.

Being a Healthcare Assistant is a wonderful role – and we know this because our teams tell us all the time. You will help care for our patients, helping with their day-to-day needs such as personal care/hygiene, meals and mobility, as well as performing medical checks such as taking temperatures, pulse and respiration rate.

Sometimes the job will be tough, you will see and be involved in some difficult things involving our patients, be rushed off your feet and deliver some very direct personal care.  We don’t want to shy away from that and we do know that this part of the role isn’t for everyone. That is why we run such a robust interview and assessment process to make sure that you understand the role, as much as we need to assess you to check you have all those fabulous skills, attributes, resilience and the caring nature we need.

As you would expect, we do work on a shift basis – our patients need our care and attention 24 hours a day 7 days a week so everyone gets involved working different shifts to ensure our patients receive the best care.  Typically, you would usually work a four shift system; early, late, twilight and nights.

GCSE Grade C in Maths and English or Level 2 Functional Skills is essential. You will need to provide a scanned copy of your certificates during the enquiry process with Lancashire Adult Learning.

Training with Lancashire Adult Learning prior to interview will include: Employment Skills, Application support, How to be successful and NHS Values

The course includes live, daily 1-hour sessions with a tutor, with approximately 3 hours independent work each day.  All learning will take place in your own home via conference and/or video calling so access to the internet and use of a laptop or PC with a camera and microphone will be required.

Interested? To book your place on the programme, contact the College direct at HCALT.admin@nelsongroup.ac.uk

The enquiry deadline is midday Tuesday 16th March.

After completing the programme, we cannot wait to welcome you to one of our interview and assessment days to show us what you are made of!

If successful, you will begin by spending the first few weeks on our bespoke training programme that will help you develop all the initial skills that will you need to do the role.

We also proactively support you if you want to go on to become a registered nurse with opportunities to apply for nurse training at one of our partner education providers, University of Central Lancashire or University of Bolton - subject to meeting university entry requirements.
