Children and families attending the Paediatric Emergency Department at Royal Preston Hospital are now being welcomed into a brighter and more comforting environment following the installation of a series of colourful new graphics.
The artwork, created by Lancashire‑based design company Marvel @ Signs, has been funded with the support of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity and two generous project sponsors, including Rhodi Charitable Trust.
The vibrant designs feature friendly jungle animals, nature‑inspired scenes and playful colours, all intended to create a calmer and more reassuring space for young patients during what can often be a stressful visit.
Emma Creaser, Matron for Paediatric Assessment Unit and Paediatric ED, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the murals. They have transformed the department, making it a much more welcoming and engaging place for children and families. We’ve already seen how the artwork helps distract and comfort young patients, and staff have commented on the lift it brings to the whole space.
"A huge thank‑you to Marvel @ Signs for their creativity and collaboration throughout the project, and to our charity partners and sponsors for making this possible."
The project includes large‑scale wall illustrations, decorative borders, bespoke panels and additional creative elements designed to brighten key areas of the department.

Work was completed in March, with staff reporting immediate positive feedback from children who have enjoyed exploring the new artwork.
Speaking about the project, Marvel @ Signs said: "Marvel at Signs is proud to work with the team at Royal Preston Hospital. The project focused on introducing fun, colourful, and playful wall graphics to help brighten the ward and create a more welcoming atmosphere for young patients. The designs were carefully developed to bring moments of joy and distraction during what can often be a stressful experience."
Rhodi Charitable Trust added: “Once again, we are delighted to support Royal Preston Hospital. Hopefully our contribution will put some smiles on the faces of the young children.”
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity helped coordinate funding to support the installation, and a spokesperson for the charity added: “We’re thrilled to support improvements that directly enhance patient experience. Projects like this simply wouldn’t happen without the generosity of our supporters and sponsors.”
