Career History:  Following completion of primary medical qualification at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (latterly Imperial College School of Medicine), undertook basic surgical training at University Hospital North Staffordshire.

Higher Surgical Trainee (elective and emergency general surgery) on the North West rotation, and spent one year at the northern Intestinal Failure Unit (one of two in the country).  Gained experience in the management of complex intestinal fistulation and its nutritional and metabolic consequences, and the surgical skills and principles required for restorative surgery at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.  Completed sub-speciality training in upper GI, parathyroid and thyroid surgery including day-to-day management of both malignant and benign oesophago-gastric and hepatopancreaticobiliary disease.
Throughout post-graduate training worked on busy emergency surgical admissions units that provided experience in the management of general and upper GI emergencies, such as GI bleeding and oesophageal perforations.

Appointed Consultant General, Upper Gastro-intestinal and Endocrine Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in April 2011.
