Sharing best practice at a national conference
A member of staff at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has presented his work at a national conference.
Nigel Scott, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, was a keynote speaker of the conference, defining risk and risk communication in colorectal surgery at the 2018 annual meeting of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
This national association consists of a group of circa 1000 surgeons, nurses and allied health professionals who work to advance the knowledge and treatment of bowel diseases across the country.
Nigel said: “Our aim should be to develop patient decision aids and allow individuals the time to consider the options that face them - informed patients can then truly participate in shared decision making with their surgeon.”
“The Association of Coloproctology with its clinical membership, national research and audit projects, coupled with the Patient Liaison Group - is in a unique position to enable shared decision making in colorectal surgery.”
Nigel’s other work has included 100 peer-reviewed papers, 200 invited lectures, and 20 invited chapters.
