World renowned chest doctor to host Eid charity lunch
Renowned local chest physician Dr Mohammed Munavvar, who is President of the European Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (EABIP), is to host a lunch to celebrate Eid that will also raise funds for the Rosemere Cancer Foundation, a charity which helped him bring new kit for the better diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer to the Royal Preston Hospital before any other hospital – NHS or private - in the country had it.
Dr Munavvar, Consultant Chest Physician, who has a special interest in the management of lung cancer, tuberculosis (TB) and emphysema amongst other chest conditions, received £100,000 from Rosemere Cancer Foundation to bring the UK’s first flexible endobronchial ultrasound system (EBUS) to Lancashire in October 2014. Of the money raised by Rosemere Cancer Foundation for its purchase, the final £37,000 came as a gift from the Muslim Council of Preston.
Now Dr Munavvar will have the opportunity to celebrate Eid with members at the special lunch on Saturday 8th June, from 11 am to 4 pm, at the city’s Imperial Banqueting Suite, St Mary’s Street North.
The lunch is also an open event with tickets on sale at £30 per person via Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s website at www.rosemere.org.uk.
Following a reception, there will be a three-course meal, presentation and auction of promises. There will also be a photo booth and gift stalls.
Dr Munavvar, who is the first ever UK chest physician to hold EABIP’s president post, hosted a similar Eid celebration last year in Blackburn that raised substantial funds for Rosemere Cancer Foundation and was attended by 140 guests.
Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from all over Lancashire and South Cumbria, being treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre, the region’s specialist cancer treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital, and at another eight local hospital cancer units.
These units are at the Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley District Hospital, Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Teaching Hospitals, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital, Westmorland General Hospital and Blackpool Teaching Hospital.
The charity funds cutting edge equipment like EBUS, research, training and other cancer services that the NHS is unable to afford.
