Career History: After initially embarking on a career as a scientist, including a successful PhD, switched to medicine. Following many years in Newcastle, including house jobs at North Tyneside District General Hospital, obtained a place on the QMC Nottingham Medical SHO rotation. Spells in Jersey, Salford and Preston followed before returning to the North East for Renal training. Took a year out of programme to work as Clinical Advisor to the National Clinical Director for Kidney Care or ‘Renal Tsar’ at the Department of Health, London, as part of the Chief Medical Officer’s Scheme (2009-10) leading on Home Haemodialysis amongst various other projects. UK & Ireland Renal SpR Club Chairman 2011-13. Completed post-graduate Renal and General Medical training July 2013 and joined specialist register at that time.
