A team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been highly commended at a national awards ceremony for excellence in organisational development.
The Leadership and Organisational Development team have been shortlisted for a Health Service Journal Value (HSJ) award in the category of training and development, for supporting members of staff who are identified as “rising stars” to shine through talent management systems. The team were highly commended for this programme at the awards ceremony which took place in Manchester last week.
The project has involved creation and embedding of a talent management programme which fosters ongoing development for staff, identifies individual strengths and areas for development; ultimately retaining talent and enhancing staff satisfaction.
Implementation of this strategy included the launch of talent management tools, workshops and materials for all managers which would help them to support their staff, a career MOT programme for those identified as “rising stars”, in addition to individualised coaching sessions.
Mandy Davis, Blended Learning Manager at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, is the lead for the talent management programme.
Mandy said: “We are really pleased to have been highly commended for this work at the HSJ Value 2018 awards. This is the result of a tremendous amount of team effort from the whole of the Leadership and Organisational Development team. It’s great for the team but also for the rest of the workforce as it’s recognition of the support and development we are offering to staff who are showing potential and indicating they’re ready for a career move.”

Following attendance on the programme, 30% of participants surveyed have taken up more senior positions. Additionally, 70% said that they had taken on additional responsibilities since attending and 50% said they had experienced development opportunities that they hadn’t previously.
