Career history: Obtained a first class honours degree in Microbiology prior to entering medicine, both at Leeds University. Trained in surgery and emergency medicine in Leeds and Manchester.
Appointed Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation trust in 1995, and is an Associate Undergraduate Dean.
Director of Continuing Professional Development and Director of Revalidation for the College of Emergency Medicine. Examiner for the Fellowship of the College of Emergency Medicine.
Specialist areas/interest:
Clinical interests include resuscitation and trauma as well as musculoskeletal injuries and medical education and research. Developed an interest in simulation from teaching on Advanced Life Support Courses.
Director of the Simulation Centre at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, and involved in developing postgraduate and undergraduate training in simulation.
Research areas:
Use of Stroke distance measured with ultrasound in assessment of hypotensive states. She won the EMRS prize for research in 1993 and presented the work in Washington D.C. at SAEM in 1994.
Current research interest is in Simulation in medical education
Presented internationally in China, Hong Kong, Australia and Canada.
