Career History: Mr Phang is a consultant neurosurgeon with a specialist interest in neuro-oncology. He graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA (First Class), and a MB BChir (Distinction in Medicine). He undertook specialist neurosurgical training in Glasgow, London and Manchester, and was awarded the FRCS(SN) in 2017. He was the RCS Eng Senior Clinical Fellow in neuro-oncology in Manchester, specialising in advanced neuro-oncology techniques. During his time in London as the McKissock Fellow in neurosurgery, he was awarded a PhD from St George’s University of London for research into multi-modality monitoring in spinal cord injury. He was appointed as a consultant in 2019 and has a specialist interest in gliomas, using minimal access techniques to shorten hospital stay and monitoring brain function intraoperatively to maximise tumour resection while minimising neurological deficit. Advanced techniques such as 5-ALA (Gliolan), advanced neuronavigation, intraoperative ultrasound, awake surgery and mapping are deployed routinely during brain tumour surgery.
