Consultant named as finalist for national cardiology award
A consultant at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been named as a finalist for a national award.
Dr Ian Schofield, Consultant Cardiologist, was named as a finalist for the British Junior Cardiologists’ Association (BJCA) Trainer of the Year Award in a national nomination scheme, which reflects his high standards of work and commitment to training.
The British Junior Cardiologists' Association (BJCA) represents over 1000 aspiring cardiologists and cardiologists in training in the UK and shares best practice and new ideas to promote the specialty and improve the care provided to patients.
Ian said: “I am so proud to have been named as a finalist for the Trainer of the Year Award this year. It is great recognition for the work that our hospitals are doing in the field of cardiology and a fantastic achievement.”
Somnath Kumar, Clinical Director for Cardiology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, said: “We have, as a cardiology team, been able to send six of our trainees into the Specialist Cardiology Training scheme this year; which no other hospitals in the North West have achieved before. This is testament to the fantastic work that our cardiology team are doing and the fantastic progress that we are making in the training that we provide.”
