Foundation Pre employment Interviews
Once you have been matched to one of our tracks you will be invited to attend a pre employment interview. Our pre employment interviews take place in June each year and are a compulsory stage of our recruitment process and involves candidates completing 2 interview stations and skills assessments.
The interview stations consist of a Clinical Scenario and a Portfolio Review. The skills circuit includes 10 minute stations assessing the following skills;
- IV Cannulation
- 12 Lead ECG
- Blood Cultures
- Adult Basic Life Support
- Paediatric Basic Life Support
The main aim of the pre-employment assessment is to identify any immediate training needs that you may have prior to you starting your Foundation post. However your appointment to the post is subject to satisfactory completion of stations 1 and 2 of the assessment circuit. If the panels are not satisfied that short falls are minor and trainable prior to or just after start date, you may not be offered a post. Occupational Health and Medical Staffing are also in attendance on the day to complete all their pre employment checks and obtain satisfactory medical clearance.
Foundation Shadowing Period
We offer a weeks shadowing period for all new FY1s in the weeks leading up to your start day in August. The shadowing period is non-compulsory and unpaid, except for the Thursday and Friday. These 2 dates are compulsory and you will be paid to attend on these dates.
During the shadowing period we offer a chance for you to get to know the hospital and the department you will be working in. Half of your time will be spent shadowing the current FY1s and familiarising yourself with your new surroundings. The other half of your time is spent in the Education Centre, where we arrange sessions on topics that we think will be useful to you when you start your job. At the end of shadowing we then hold a mandatory Foundation Doctors Induction day, along with any compulsory training you will need to undertake before starting your first placement and any follow on training that may have been identified during the pre employment interviews.
