A Valued addition to the team

A Valued addition to the team

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to share that one of our patients, a war veteran who lost both his legs fighting in Afghanistan, is now working with us as a personal trainer.

Gregg Stevenson, from Colne in Lancashire, underwent treatment at our Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) in Preston after he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED) while on patrol in 2009, losing one leg above and the other below the knee.

Gregg is now working as a Physical Training Instructor at the SMRC which is part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Gregg said: “I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, and am excited to get stuck in and help our service users get fitter.”

Fergus Jepson, Consultant at the SMRC at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals said: “The fitness centre has been funded by NHS England as part of the SMRC’s status as an enhanced centre for veteran amputee care. The aim of the centre is to benefit veterans and nonveteran amputees alike and Gregg is an ideal person to lead the fitness centre. His calm demeanour and charming manner together with his military and defence medical rehabilitation centre experience saw him make a huge difference when attending the centre as a trainee. We are privileged to welcome him back as the Physical Training Instructor and fitness suite lead as part of the rehabilitation team at the SMRC.”

The Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) provides specialist wheelchair, prosthetic limb and orthotic rehabilitation services throughout Lancashire and South Lakeland for people of all ages with long-term mobility problems.
