Career history: After initial training and fellowship in Otolaryngology from Edinburgh Dr Ahmmed obtained specialist training in Audiovestibular Medicine at Manchester. He joined Fulwood Paediatric Audiology Service as a consultant in 1997. The service provides a tertiary paediatric Audiology care in a spoke and hub model throughout most of Lancashire in partnership with the local services. This enables holistic care for children with hearing and balance disorders, a condition with low critical mass, over a wide area that includes Preston, Chorley and South Ribble, Ormskirk, Southport, Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, and Lancaster.
Dr Ahmmed has a keen interest in non-surgical management of Glue ear, congenital hearing loss and Auditory Processing Disorder and has carried out research and publications in these areas. Dr Ahmmed’s work has shown that hearing aids can be effectively used in the management of glue ear. His recent research has lead to a new understanding of the underlying factors in Auditory Processing Disorder.
