Lancashire Teaching Hospitals

Patient Advice And Liaison

The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is available to support patients, their relatives and carers, who are currently using the services provided by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The aim of PALS is to:

  • Provide information to patients, relatives and carers about the services of the Trust
  • Facilitate problem solving between patients, carers and health service staff at a very local level before it becomes a complaint issue
  • Support the Trust to use the information gained from patients' concerns to improve services and influence future planning and delivery
  • Inform people about the complaints procedure and independent advocacy services
  • Operate in network with other PALS services

PALS can support any current user of services provided by the Trust, their informal carers or relatives but is unable to:

  • Provide direct medical advice
  • Provide an advocacy service
  • Provide counselling
  • Provide legal advice
  • Provide independent support for individuals making a formal complaint under the NHS complaints system
  • Assist service users to pursue a concern once the complaints procedure has been exhausted
  • Support a patient, carer or relative in the pursuit of a concern that takes legal action in respect of that concern

PALS will, at the request of the individual, arrange contact with the appropriate personnel/agencies so that assistance can be offered in connection with the above.

The PALS team can be contacted as follows
