How to Prepare

What to bring

If you are coming into hospital for a planned operation or treatment, you will be told what to bring.  These are the items you are likely to need:

  • Nightdress or pyjamas
  • Walking or dressing aid (if used)
  • Dressing gown
  • Books, magazines
  • Slippers or non-slip shoes
  • Denture cleaner/bowl (if used)
  • Toiletries
  • Day clothes (if appropriate)
  • Tissues or handkerchiefs 
  • Any medication taken regularly at home
  • Spectacles
  • Stationery, stamps, pens
  • Loose change

In an emergency the Trust can provide nightwear, slippers and towels if you require these.  Please speak to a member of the nursing staff. 

What not to bring

If you are coming into hospital for a planned operation or treatment please do not bring the following: 

  • Radio
  • Mobile phone
  • Television
  • Cigarettes
  • Large sums of money
  • Jewellery

If you do have any valuables with you e.g. pension book, you are advised to hand them to staff for safekeeping and you will be given a receipt.  Please note any cash handed in for safekeeping will be returned as a cheque.

The Trust does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage to personal property that is not handed in to staff for safekeeping.
