Orthopaedic patients at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are set to benefit from an imaginative new pager system.
Under the new electronic pager system each patient that checks in for their appointment will be given a personal pager. The personal pager will give them a five-minute warning before their appointment.
The initiative ensures that patients at Royal Preston Hospital can use the many facilities, including cafés and shops, without fear of missing their appointment.
Julie Seed, Associate General Manager for Orthopaedics at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Our patients told us they wanted to be able to use the hospital’s facilities, but were worried about missing their appointments. The introduction of personal pagers for patients is a simple solution.
“It should also help us manage waiting times before appointments.”
The system has also been designed to provide a better service for deaf or visually impaired patients.
The new pagers have been funded using charitable donations to the Orthopaedics Department.
