Lancashire Teaching Hospitals

Membership

On 1 April 2005 Lancashire Teaching Hospitals was successful in becoming one of the first Foundation Trusts in the country.  Foundation Trust status has brought about a number of changes in the way in which Chorley and South Ribble and Royal Preston Hospitals are run, with one of the most significant being the creation of a membership.

Today our 23,000 strong membership is one of the largest in the country.  Membership is a fundamental part of being a Foundation Trust.  It allows local people, patients and staff to play an active role in the way services are delivered and developed in the future.

Being a member of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals delivers a number of benefits.  Members receive invitations to exclusive members’ events, which are held throughout the year.  There are also opportunities for higher level members to become involved in how the Trust is run and have the scope to influence the way in which services are delivered.  This is done by:

•    giving their views, suggestions and ideas about specific aspects of hospital services via a variety of involvement opportunities
•    standing for election to the Trust’s Governing Council , the body of people who are responsible for representing the views of the membership
•    voting in the Trust’s Governing Council elections  to decide who should represent the interests of the membership

Members also receive copies of Trust Matters, the newsletter for Foundation Trust members, which gives up-to-date information about what is happening in Chorley and South Ribble and Royal Preston Hospitals.

Membership is designed to be flexible to allow people to get involved as much or as little as they want. Some members just want to receive newsletters to ensure that they are kept informed about what is happening in their local hospitals, whilst others want to attend events or take part in consultations in their areas of interest - the decision is up to you! Click on the levels of involvement link  to find out more about the various ways in which members can get involved with the Trust.

Membership is FREE and open to people living within the local area, patients and members of staff.

Some examples of the various events and consultations, which members have been involved in can be found by visiting the members making a difference section.
