Sign Off Mentors

Sign off Mentors are a mandatory requirement of the NMC Standards to support learning and assessment in practice (2008).

A Sign off Mentor is required for all programmes of Nurse training commencing after September 2007. This means the first 'Sign offs' for Pre Registration training took place in September 2010.

A Sign off Mentor is a registered Nurse Mentor who has been designated as responsible for confirming students have reached the required standard of proficiency for safe and effective practice for entry onto the NMC Register. To do this they are required to meet specific criteria.

In Pre Registration Nursing Sign off Mentors are required in the final placement (Internship) of the programme. If you wish to attend a sign off Mentor preparation session please contact one of the Practice Education Facilitators.
