At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust clinical placement support for pre registration nurses and their mentors is one of our highest priorities.
Our Trust works in partnership with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) to support students in becoming qualified nurses. The course for Diploma or Degree in Nursing lasts for three years full time study, or four years and three months if studying part time. During this time UCLan students access all the practice areas within the Trust and our qualified nurses assess the students' practical skills.
Four Practice Education Facilitators employed by The Trust support the organisation of student nurses in practical placements. The role of the Practice Education Facilitator is to ensure the clinical areas are fully prepared to take student nurses and to liase with tutors and senior staff at UCLan to ensure the students' experience in practice meets their course needs. They also have some responsibilities with regard to students from other professional groups and are expectde to promote Interprofessional learning between all Students on placement at the Trust.
These web pages will be of great use to our pre registration student nurses, their mentors and other placement staff.
Our Practice Education Facilitators currently operate across all Directorates of the Trust supporting student nurses in adult and child branch nursing, their mentors and other placement staff. Our training & Assessment Quality Manager, Kate Harrison is their Supervisor. The Nursing aspect of their role is also supported by our Associate Director of Nursing, Katie Swarbrick.
