NEUROLOGICAL EMERGENCIES FOR ACUTE MEDICINE - 5 RCP CPD points approved

An intensive 1-day lecture course covering neurological emergencies, and targeted to consultants and junior doctors of all grades working in hospital acute medicine settings. Similar study days run previously by the organiser were rated 'excellent' by up to 88% of delegates, and regarded as 'ideal' for DGH physicians.

Part 2: Specific neurological emergencies

11.40 - 12.20  Acute/subacute neuromuscular failure: including GBS and MG - Dr John Nixon (Consultant Neurologist)

12.20 - 1.00    Disordered consciousness: coma, encephalopathy and epilepsy emergencies - consultant neurologist

1.00 - 1.45      Lunch

1.45 - 2.25      Neurosurgery for acute medicine: acute cord/cauda equina compression and other neurosurgical emergencies - consultant neurosurgeon

2.25 - 3.05      Acute headache: SAH, adult bacterial meningitis, encephalitis, CVST and other acute headaches - consultant neurologist

3.05 - 3.25      Break

3.25 - 4.05      Acute focal deficits: TIA, stroke, acute MS relapse - Dr Hedley Emsley (Consultant Neurologist)
