Currently we take six second year Podiatry students per academic year. These Students are studying their BSc Podiatry Degree at Salford University. During each Academic year we may also have up to six final year students on placement for a four or five week period in the autumn and spring terms. Each student is supervised by a qualified member of staff on a one to one basis. At the moment this means we are able to accommodate up to students at any one time.
The Students follow the curriculum set by Salford University.
Students receive an Induction pack, information on study leave, recruitment forms & interview information. They are also given copies of protocols and guidelines.
The Students are sometimes accompanied the Podiatrist while they carry out their duties but by the second year they are able to hold a Clinic or work in the community. By the end of their second semester they are expected to build up their speed and proficiency.
The third year students placements follow the same pattern as second years but they may also start to see more high risk patients. They are expected to become proficient in specialist Clinics including Biomechanics, nail Surgery, Diabetes, wound care and possibly the Renal Department. Many placements are also accommodated at Minerva.
The clinical educators receive training from Salford University on how to support their students. This course involves attendance at University and completion of a piece of written work at the end of the course. They must then complete further written work every five years to re accredit themselves. This work is also marked by the University. They receive updates at Salford University.
Some staff also receive Clinical Supervision training from UCLAN
