Governors are elected by patients, public and staff, or nominated by some of our partner organisations, like the Primary Care Trusts. Elections to the Governing Council take place at the beginning of each year, and Governors generally serve a three-year term of office, beginning and ending in April.
They attend meetings of the Governing Council, representing their local communities, and working together to advise and influence on how Lancashire Teaching Hospitals develops as an NHS Foundation Trust to meet the needs of local people in the future. This means discussing things like major new service developments, the annual report and accounts, and how members are being recruited and kept informed.
The Governing Council of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust holds three formal meetings, plus an annual general meeting each year. In addition to this, monthly workshops are held for Governors so that they are up-to-date with what is happening in the NHS, can learn more about their role and get to know each other better.
All members of the Governing Council have a responsibility to declare relevant interests, as defined in sections 12.36 to 12.39 of the Trust Constitution.
